OTHER STUFF

Comics (top)
There is one comic series based on Silent Hill currently in publication, and another that was scrapped although it could still possibly be released.

"Silent Hill: Dying Inside"
IDW Publishing released the first issue of this in January of 2004. The story follows the efforts if an arrogant Dr. Troy Abernathy to cure the psychological problems of patient Lynn DeAngelis. Going to Silent Hill, they begin to unravel the mystery of her delusions and encounter horrific dangers in the process. Written by Scott Ciencin and illustrated by Aadi Salman, Ben Templesmith, and Ashley Wood. Click here for the official site.

ComX adaptation of Silent Hill
This was a project initiated four years ago, and one that has apparently been completed. However, it has yet to be released, and the European company ComX has issued no hope in a while. The story put a spin on that of the original Silent Hill game.

Silent Hill, the Film (top)
In September of 2003 it was announced that a film adaptation of the hit video game series was going to be made. Directed by Christopher Gans, (Brotherhood of the Wolf, 2001) and written by Roger Avery (Pulp Fiction, 1994). The unique atmosphere and suspense elements of Silent Hill were cited as motivation for its production.

The film adheres loosely to the premise of the original game while incorporating elements from the sequel games and following its own bizarre course of events. Therefore, it is non-canon and immaterial to the game series. In the author’s opinion, it is a very effective adaptation of the games, capturing the mood and essence of Silent Hill.

Silent Hill was released to American cinemas on 21 April 2006, and is now available on DVD. Notable cast members include Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and Alice Krige ("Borg Queen," Star Trek: First Contact).

Lost Memories Guidebook (top)
An essential piece of literature for the Silent Hill fan, the guidebook explains in detail the complex plots of the series, which can often be cloudy. Numerous contents include character analyses, creator's comments on everything from designs to origins of occult references, and an outlook on the Silent Hill series as a whole. It is no less than a bible for Silent Hill.

This was released in Japanese only, but you can find a lovely translation at Silent Hill Chronicle.

Media DVD's (top)
Konami has released two DVD's covering all visual and audio media related to the Silent Hill series. These are released in Japan only, and one would pay quite a chunk for an import.

"Art of Silent Hill"
Released after Silent Hill 2, this DVD contains production materials, abstract artwork, creature images, trailors, and other media for the first two Silent Hill games. Lost Memories (below) is the only one you need, though, and probably the only one you can find. Still, hardcore Silent Hill fans aught to have everthing collectable, eh?

"Lost Memories: The Art and Music of Silent Hill"
A new and improved version of The Art of Silent Hill released after the third game. This DVD contains most, if not all of the media from the above one, and much more. Among the new materials are images and soundtracks from all three games, the complete endings, and even a special music video.

If you're just up for seeing the contents and not purchasing, Maskrider has both DVD's captured in their entirety. Check out Maskrider's site.

Silent Hill Play Novel (top)
In 2001, the original Silent Hill was adapted to the Game Boy Advance in a release that bridges the gulf between games and novels, hence the name. The player can take on two scenarios, that of either Harry or Cybil, as they choose between different courses of action in Silent Hill and read the characters' resulting thoughts and consequences. The Play Novel can also be used with the Game Boy Mobile Adaptor to make available yet a third scenario -- that of a young boy. Unfortunately, the Play Novel was only released in Japan, and is likely discontinued.
