About the Game

In 1999, Konami released an amazing new videogame to the Sony Playstation, one that would prove revolutionary in ushering in a new era of psychological terror. With its deep, tragic, and thrilling plot, misty, dark environments, and horrifying creatures, Silent Hill is clearly the scariest game of all time. And let's not forget the lonesome, pale illumination from the flashlight, or the sound of that radio...

Years later, after two sequels have been released, and with a fourth chapter impending, the original Silent Hill remains a testament to survival horror. This is precisely why this site has been established -- to record every last detail and pay tribute to such a masterpiece.

About the Site

Genesis is defined by Webster's as "the origin or coming into being of something." The word is most familiar as the title of the first book of the Bible, making it most appropriate for our purposes here.

Mattercycle is proud to present this new site for the genesis of scarriest videogame trilogy of all time, Silent Hill. I'm on a mission to build THE most comprehensive and detailed site possible, covering all aspects of the game and its related media. When it comes to your SH1 needs, it only makes sense to put them in the hands of a Silent Hill fanatic like myself.

Why make a site exclusively for original Silent Hill?
  • The original game for Playstation is my personal favorite. The graphics and effects may be primitive, but the story and mood are top-notch.
  • The next-gen console sequels are excellent in their own prestige, but fail to live up to the original in the same way Reloaded and Revolutions failed The Matrix.
  • Coverage on the Internet for SH1 is minimal. Many of the decent sites have small or uncompleted SH1 sections compared to theirs for the other games.
  • I know Silent Hill inside and out (wrote the walkthrough from sheer memory), and I would like to share that information.
  • Because Silent Hill 0WNZ J00.

Credits
Much thanks and stuff.

To Konami, for making one STELLAR gaming series. Be careful about straying from the roots with those PS2 sequels, though.

To Dan Birlew, aka President Evil, who wrote the famous plot guides way back when. It was he who introduced me to the fun of Silent Hill study. So much for the Sanitarium, Dan. Hopefully this site pays some homage to it.

To Rob McGregor, author of the "Silent Hill Item List/Location Guide," without which I never would have found all 204 items. Here's another person I enjoyed chatting with on message boards. He and Dan have contributed so much to the survival horror community.

To the people of Nursery Cryme, who documented every little tidbit of the environments of Silent Hill. It was a great help for finding some stuff.

To Rura Penthe, author of the very first Silent Hill walkthrough that I'm aware of. He/she set alot of useful precedents in that single piece of work. If you're reading this, drop me a line sometime.

To all the other Silent Hill sites out there, past and present, particularly my affiliates, who are a continued inspiration for what I'm trying to accomplish.

To anyone else who contributed anything to this site, particular all the people on various message boards who took the time to discuss Silent Hill with me, supplying various ideas.

To Brandon at Silent Hill Fever, for generously hosting Genesis.

And to YOU for visiting this site. I hope you enjoy it.
